Hi! I'm Colleen. Welcome to my web site - a place where I promise to be transparent and real with you. I'm a Christian freelance writer, speaker and songwriter. I talk a lot about prayer because it is a staple in my life.
I have prayed many prayers of desperation. My mother and siblings were victims of domestic violence. The first prayer I can remember praying was for peace in my home. As a child, I asked God to spare my mother’s life in exchange for mine. As a teen, I prayed that God would send the right young man in my life who would love me in spite of my family issues. As an adult, I asked God for two children after being told I would never conceive. God kept me safe, and blessed me with a Christian husband and two healthy children.
As I became seasoned in prayer, I prayed prayers of hope and thanksgiving. I began to trust God's word and his promises— that's when I discovered joy.
The person who inspired me to become a writer was my great-grandfather, the Rev. Ephraim Pray Hammond. They called him the walking preacher man. Although he passed away before I was born, his journals told me everything I needed to know about him. Not a man of material wealth, but he left behind a legacy of serving God and interceding for his family. On April 7, 1917, Ephraim Pray Hammond journaled this entry, “I have no possessions in this world to bequeath you. All the wealth I ever had is God's promises and they are true and tried. I heartily recommend them to you. Be sure and rightly use them and you will find they are the true riches.”
The funeral director commented on Grandpa's calloused knees. I was told that the family smiled as it brought back sweet memories of seeing him pray. I penned a prayer dedicated to him. Will you say it with me? “Lord, let my knees grow calloused as my heart grows tender for more prayer time with you.”

I’m A Champion
A couple of years ago, I founded a second group called the East Metro Atlanta Christian Songwriters. A dear friend and brilliant songwriter and producer, John Johnson led the sessions at his recording studio, http://www.mysongdemo.com. Songwriter friends Cindy Reynolds and Cindi Hall helped coordinate the lessons. I attended as a support person only. I am not a singer and know very little about music, other than taking one year of piano as a child. God began to plant inspirational children’s songs in my heart. After having taught Sunday school for thirty five years, I was overjoyed to find another avenue to teach little takeaways. In October 2008, I released my album, I’m a Champion.
A new collection of inspirational children songs with sound tracks for ages 4-12, the CD includes “I’m A Champion,” “Devil, Eat My Dust,” “My Jesus Rocks,” “Look at You, God,” “I’m a Masterpiece” and “God’s a Giver.” Perfect for children’s choirs, Sunday school, children’s church, summer camps, VBS, and family worship.
